Launch of SCAN!

12 December 2024

In November 2024, the Food Quality Observatory launched SCAN!, an initiative entirely dedicated to improving the nutritional value of Quebec’s organic food products.

The Nutritional improvement calculator simulator (SCAN!) is the result of extensive dialogue with partners in the organic food sector. SCAN! is based on the highest scientific standards. This innovation is in line with the Observatory’s mission to contribute to the collective effort to improve the nutritional quality of Quebec’s processed foods and, in turn, improve the health of the population.

SCAN! is a free, online tool that allows businesses to:
-Verify their compliance with Health Canada’s regulations on the display of the front-of-package nutrition symbol.
-Identify areas for improvement to enhance the quality of their product offerings.
-Compare the nutritional composition of their products with their competitors products.
-Simulate recipe reformulations.

The creation of this platform has been made possible thanks to funding from the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ). This tool will be a major asset in helping Quebec’s bio-food processing companies improve the nutritional quality of the food supply in Quebec.
